Information Communication Technology
The Data Management and Archiving System (DMAS) team within the ONC Observatory, has developed the systems needed to acquire, archive, process and redistribute vast amounts of extremely diverse data. Modules called drivers have been developed to interact with the over 400 instruments connected to the Observatory networked with close to 1000 km of fibre optic cable to depths of 2700m.
ONCCEE is looking to partner with the ICT industry for supporting the analysis and display of “big data” with particular focus on environmental applications. The unique scope, scale and longevity of the continuous real-time data streams from our observatories, and their applications to major global challenges (hazard mitigation, ocean-climate dynamics, ocean resource assessment, and sovereignty and security), provide unprecedented opportunities to develop the ICT sector and extend those capabilities to environmental research and policy.
ONCCEE offers expert consulting on data management issues related to ocean observatories.
