About Us
In April, 2009 the federal Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (CECR) program funded Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) to establish the new Ocean Networks Canada Centre for Enterprise and Engagement (ONCCEE) as Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Ocean Observing Systems. ONCCEE’s mission is to position Canada as an international leader in ocean observing system science and technology by maximizing the associated socio-economic benefits through commercialization and outreach programs. Embedded within Ocean Networks Canada, which manages Canada’s premier ocean observing networks, VENUS and NEPTUNE Canada, ONCCEE is making significant progress. ONCCEE is creating national and international partnerships with industry and academia in all four of its main focus areas - ocean sensor technologies, ocean observing system technologies, information and communication technologies, and public engagement – thereby developing opportunities to expand Canada’s leadership in ocean observing technologies.
ONCCEE is creating an international network of partners to:
- facilitate the development of new ocean observing systems
- enhance ocean observing system capabilities
- create new opportunities for industry network companies
- identify and promote new technologies with our demonstration facility
- showcase VENUS and NEPTUNE Canada research and technology
- inform the public on ocean issues and their relevance to our lifestyles
- improve ocean literacy in Canada
- disseminate scientific evidence regarding vital ocean issues
- attract youth to Canadian ocean science and engineering careers
- encourage ocean discovery
